DocJax

Scribd Search for Documents

Find documents people have uploaded to Scribd: reports, manuals, study notes, legal papers and more. DocJax limits the search to Scribd document pages and runs it on Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo or Yandex.

File type

Scribd files are found by their address, so file type doesn’t apply here.

What You Can Find on Scribd

Scribd started in 2007 as a site for sharing documents and later added a subscription library of ebooks and audiobooks. The shared documents are uploaded by users, so the range is huge: course notes, company filings, product manuals, sheet music and court papers.

Uploaded documents live at scribd.com/document, each with a number and title in the address. That pattern is what the search uses, so ebook and audiobook pages stay out of your results.

How to Search Scribd Documents

  1. Type the title or the words you expect in it.
  2. Turn on exact phrase under More filters if you know the full title.
  3. Add a word in the address field to match the file name Scribd puts in the link.
  4. Compare Google and Bing. Each one has indexed a different set of Scribd uploads.

Viewing and Downloading

Most Scribd documents show a preview to anyone. Downloading usually needs a Scribd account, and some documents need a subscription. If you need the same report free, the original is often on the publisher's own site, so try the document search engine with the title and PDF selected.

Scribd also owns SlideShare, which has its own SlideShare search page here.

Questions

Can you search Scribd without an account?

Yes. Searching and reading previews works without signing in. An account is needed to download most documents.

Why doesn't Scribd's own search find a document?

Scribd's search mixes its paid ebooks and audiobooks in with user uploads. Searching Scribd document pages through Google leaves those out and often ranks the uploads better.

Are Scribd documents free?

Previews are free. Full downloads usually need a free or paid account, depending on the document.
