Utirik who received only 36 R, s69-2k56, shows a well-developed follicular carcinoma with capsule i?ava~ionsuggesting:” origin from a preexisting adenoma. In some foci there is tumor in the th’~oid tissue without any evidence of a preexisting capsule. There $s also evidence of blood vessel invasion. Anjain, 22-year-old male from Rongelap, S69-2h63, shows a mild adenomatous Boas, s~-year-old female from Rongelap, S@-2&9~, shows nild adenomatous goiter with one sclerosing focus that I have been unwilling to call carcinomacous buz should be studied further. NEW ENGLAND DEACONESS HOSPITAL On tlmther study of the slides from Boas, s69-2495, I have come to the conclusion that thi~ is indee’da carcinoma. This provides a startlingly high incidence of carcino~ in this group of cases recently operated upon. In view of the relatively high incidence of thyroid cancer known to exist in Japan and the rece~~ly reported high iacidence in Hawaii, additiomi. studies of controle are essential. ., Dr. Meiszner and Dr. Gates have looked at these cases individually and agree as to final diagnoses.
