The people of Utirik and Rongel.ap, independently have recently indicated a desire for changes in the type of medi.cd care under the ERDA program. Specifically, they have requested that ER3A expands and improves medical care Of all the people on their isLsnds. It f: recognized by the IJ.S. (ERDA) that general medical care of the people of t!leMarshall I.elands is a responsibi.li.ty of the Administration of tile TTP1. At the came time, it appclars that the request for extended medical care under tune ERDA program stems from a change in the perception on the part of tha people of Utir3_k and Rongelap of the manner and extent to which pact ERDA activities have affected their lives psychOIOgfaally, 90ciZ311y, and economically. It appearfl, therefore to be in the i~terest of both the TTPI and t?~eU.S. (ERDA) to explore ways in which these perceived needs can best be met by both parties within framework of ti}ef.rrespective responsibilities. it is proposacl that the 7J.S. (ERDA) ia prepnred to asaist the TW1 in the discharge of its heal.~11care respon9ibilitf.es to the people BEST COPY AVAILABLE
