BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY ASSOCIATED UNIVERSITIES. INC . Division of Biology and Piedicine A tonic Energy Commission I have just returned from the iliarshall Islands and in general the arrangements for the forthcoming survey were agreed upon t o my satis fac - their plane being delayed with engine trouble.Mr. Ncas i s now DIST AD at Ponape and came t o blajuro t o relieve Boyd JdcKenzie so that he could visit some of the other islands. 3r. Neas arrived at Majuro the day after I did, Allen, Mr. Shoemaker and myself to discuss the survey. forwarded a memorandum t o blcKenzie outlining certain stipulations which lie desired fulfilled in regard to the survey. Nucker since I had thou,-ht we !iaJ seen eye toeye on the importance of the surveys. ha3 little to say except that he had tried to get the Trust Territory to appreciate the significance of the survey as a research project an& encouraged thein to accept the surveys on this basis. He added that they did not seen to see it from this point of view. He hinted that the use of the Iloque was one main deterrent in carrying out the sur - veys. I believe that it is q * J lt c likely, ifthe body burdens show n o further increase, there id11 probably be no serious objections to carrying out future surveys by living on the island without need of the use of the Roque. Apparently they understood that it was only
