ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS AT THULE Sampling for Radioanalysis Ice cores from scene of crash Water beneath sea ice Zooplankton, and phytoplankton, if present Sea bottom detritus - in shore Land snow or ice down wind from crash Rate and direction under-ice currents Land plants of polster habit; lichens of fruticose habit American Scientific Cooperation at Site Marine Biologist w/Arctic ecological experience Restrict Eskimo Hunting To keep them from collecting metal and other "trinkets” from plane debris; hunting not very profitable in winter anyway. One suspects that the ton of horse meat brought to Thule by General Hunziker for dog food was more Need for Immediate Action if Surface Ice is Removed Ice begins to melt in April and heavy equipment would be endangered. Cores should determine need for such action.
