Thi» statement of requirements asks for t h e assignment of \k Harxiie-Talkien, 9 Kanote Control Units, 21 Fixed Stations, and 79 Mobile Sets. The request for Fixed Stations does not include the base station facilities at Smoky, Jr. One of the 79 Mobiles end one of the Remotes have already been installed, 2 . The Test Director ' s Office believes that the numbei-s of VHF-K-i radio units no-rf available for assignment to the test organizations a t Nevada Proving Grounds, after allowing for presently installed enuiprnerit and for required maintenance spares, are approximately: 3 . Originally, renuirements presented to t h e Test Director were for approximately 100 Mobile S e t s . Because aorae of the persons who r e - quested eouipraent have been very cooperative about reducing rermests, the requirements presented t o your office now total only 79 Mobiles, However, the use of Mobile Radios saves a great deal of time and oonej' during the f i e l d operations of many of the projects and support units at Nevada Proving Grounds, Therefore, itis re-uested that AEC investigate these possibilities : a. Borrowing of a small aiaount of additional mobile VHF-Ff'! equipment frcm other field offices. net at NPG t o determine whether or nat- units can be made available froa t h a t net as construction decreases and the experimental program begins. Again, the vrriter i s aware of the value of Mobile Radio as used on t h e Engineering net, and does not ask that eoidpeient be diverted from this use i f any harmful effect would be caused b.' diversion.

The 16 Mobile and 1 Fixed s e t s requested for Program 27 should will be written abjut the conraunications problem of this particular program, 5. The statement of reouireniaits i s based on t h e assiznptiOTi that three networks will be available for the test programs, as requested in letter from this office t o OTO, dated 28 November 1952, subject, "Request for Establishment of Fifth VHF-R-i Radio Net a t Kevada Proving Grounds". Combination of iVeapons Effects and .•eapons Development into one net will be unwieldy because of the numbers of stations involved; itis strongly liTged that the fifth net be established, 6. Host of the sets listed in the statanent should be installed during Idarch 1953> i f present schedules are not changed, A very few sets will be installed between 1 January and 1 March 1953. 7 .
