Director of Classification This is further to our conversation this morning, regarding .the communi cation of certain information to Danish officials and scientists in‘connection with the B-52 crash at Thule Air Base. This information, I understand, consists of; (a) estimates of the amount of plutonium removed by the United States from the site of the crash; and (b) the total kilograms of plutonium contained in the four weapons! On the U.S. side, we in the DoD agree that all such information should, though declassified, be treated as administratively confidential. I shall see that the necessary instructions are promulgated within DoD. With respect to our communications with the Danish, I understand that Com missioner Tape and I shall join in asking the Danish officials and scientists who receive this information to cooperate by treating it as privileged infor mation. We shall ask that they limit the communication of this information to officials and scientists in their country with a uneed-to-know". I would predict that they will be very cooperative in this matter, but with the best of intentions on their part I could hardly guarantee that this type of control will be totally effective. can walske ■ DOE ARCHIVES Assistant to the Secretary co
