Professor Whitman opened the meeting by explaining that it was a preliminary conference between representatives of Fairchild's Project NEPA and MIT's Project Lexington, to acquaint each other generally with their respective organizations, objectives, status of work and future plans. He explained briefly the negotiations between the AEC and MIT which established Project Lexington.
