UNIVERSITY OF IVASJIIXGTOFJ Asst. Manager for Operations USAEC, Nevacia Operations Office A second sup~lewent to the 1973-74 Johnston Atoll contract was in the amount of $5977 for the snalvses of samples collected at Ron~elap and Bikini in April, 1974. A report of the first results of a~alyses was submitted to l!r. Tomw M&raw, DOS, on 3 July, and a copv of that letter is attached. Followinfi is a report of the results of the al~alyses for the remaining samples. sample that ~~as lost, have been completed for 38 samples of soil, fish and , coconut crabs collected on Eikini Island and Rongelap Atoll in April, 1974. Ta~le% 1, 2, 3 and 5, and Table 4 replaces Table 4. In the’soil samples, most of the 90 w’e$‘ in the top 25cm of the profiles.. Str ntium-9b levels in the coconut crabs were greater for the Bikini than for th Rongelap samles and, as e:mected, the greatest tissue concentration (’ on Bikini Island in 1974 fall at the lower end of the ranqe of values ) reported by Held (1971, ?PIO-269-8) for coconut crabs collected on Bikini Two samples, the O to 2.5 cm increment from soil nrofile ?2 and the Bikini crab exoskeleton, are being reanalyzed for 9%r because of inconsistent values for the first two analyses. ~~ullet and goatfish collected near Bi!<ini Island in 1.974, conpared with fish collected there in 1969 (Held, 1971), had similar levels of 90Sr but lower levels of 55Fe. Except for the two samples being reanalyzed, this completes the analyses of samples descr~.bed in the Second Supplement to the 1973-74 Johnston Atoll pro~ram. We are presently anzlyzing the remainder of the samples collected during the April, 1974, trip to Utirik, F.onrelap and Bi!:ini Atolls as part of the 1974-75 Johnston Atoll oro~ram. Res;l.ts of these analyses will he forwardetl to you as the;~hec?ve available.
