The first order of business presented tothe Cornnittee by the Chairman was a discussion of the minutes of t h e meeting held 1950. Upon a motion by Dr. atthe AEC on Uay 12-13, Bronk and seconded by Report on Support of Research Projects The following projects in biology, medicine, and health physics, that had been selected since the previous meeting by t h e Division of diology and hjedicine t o receive support by the' Atomic Energy Commission were studied by the Bomrnittee. Dr. Xarren conmented that the number of 83 approved contracts may seem t o be high, however, it did notre pre smt undue acquiescence in requests, but rather it is a reflection of the fact that there were certain specific holes in the biological, medical and health physics programs that needed t o be filled and '- the Division had been working hard to interest various Pollard - fl Irradiation of Viruses and Large Moleculesft (Approval of renewal of contract for period Jun 1, Previous contract June 1, 1949

The Cornnittee approved of this proposal and of this type of investigation and they will look for wad to definite suggestions from br. Bronk on how t h e Committee and the Division of diology and Medicine may cooperate i n this Radioisotope Radioisotope Traiqing Courses C ours e s Dr. Nathan Woodruff..of the Oak Ridge Operations Office sought the view of the committee as t o expanding the basic radioisotope train j ng courses to universities and colleges in the larger metropolitan areas by assisting them financi ally in creating facilities whereby they could train persons inthe handling of radioactive materials. It was the sense of the Committee that even though the objectives as set for.th by Dr. Woodruff seemed t o ba desirable it was their belief that the present training course programs as now established are adequate. The question of broadoning t h c scope of research with free radioactive isotopes, rather than restricting thcm for use i n cancer resGarch was fully discussed. The Committee wished t o be placed on record as bcing i n favor of using free radioactive isotopes for all types of research which may be described a s fundamental rosearch including chzmistry, biology and physics, Idaho Reactor Idaho iieactor Test
