To determine t h e relationship between urinary excretion and plutonium body content, 18 persons of short life expectancy were injected with plutonium between 1945 and 1947. Seventeen of these 1 8 individuals h a v e been identified; eight were found to have survived for a t l e a s t eight years and three are still alive today. The causes of-death of 14 of these individuals have been determined from death certificates; hone appear t o b e releted to the administered plutonium. Doses to the liver and to the cells onthe surface of bone have been calculated for these cases. The bodies of two of these cases have bean exhumed and the creinstion ashes obtained for a Inj. dose At inj. A good body burden determination will be obtained by radiochemical analysis. Tne skeletal remains of Chi-I dre poor; only a rough body content is expected, From the cremation ashes of Cal-I a rough body content is expected. Future Plans: Exhumations of as many cases as possible are desired. The primary purpose is to determine t h e skeletal distribution of plutonium by autoradiographs for long periods after acquisition, A secondary puLmose is to determine the level of plutonium i n various organs a t death; &I? still-living cases are desired for this purpose, but no attempts too jt a in willed bodies or autopsy p emissions have been mads.
