Division of Biology and Pledicine 1901 Const itut ion Avenue Thank you for your letter of March 9, 1949 in which p u propose t h a t we collaborate with you on a brief description and discussion of some of the aspects of our work, Is hall be very happy t o cooperate with you in the matter and I have spoken t o both D r . Brues and Dr. Jack Schubert about it. It seems t o me t h a t we can readily furnish you with an account of the work concerning the ca.rcinogenic aspects of internal emitters, would, of course, include some of the historical background which initiated the program here and it would then outline the most significant pciints that this program has t o date accomplished. I n EL similar manner, we can write up the relatively meager infomation that we have with regard t o Beryllium and we shall do so since you requested it i n your letter, it may perhaps be somewhat premature t o include it in the next semi-annual report since nothing very striking can be reported a t this time, with the exception of course, of Dr. Cloudman's work with regard tothe Beryllium problem as a whole, continuing some of the laboratory work in t h e hope that we might find some clues t o the apparent toxicity of Beryllium i n humans. However, I think that We are exceedingly puzzled, at this point, However, we are I would like to take the opportunity of this semi-annual report t o give you a short account of the work that Dr, Schubert and his group have been doing i n the f i e l d of treatment of radioelement poisoning where much valuable information has accumulated during the last two years, some of the high-lights of this research a t thi$ time, provided of course t h a t this meets with your approval, would also be most suitable probably fora public discussion a t It wuld seem opportune t o mention The latter program

not as cleaT-cut scientifically and therefore least amenable for a discussion for the public at this moment , Metal Displacement Therapy of radioactive isotopes would also fitin nicely with the first account on the carcinogenicity of In contrast, the Eeryllium problem t o my mind is Schubertls work on Please letme know whether the above outline covers adequately those points t h a t you have had in mind. very happy t o cooperate with you i n every possible way, for w e feel that this is a very important aspect and responsibility.
