Tnere is also a contract for other research to be conducted at Rochester more directly under my supervision. This biological research program is b cover espects not previously covered by D r . Stone's group. The details for his are being worked out by conferences,with Dr. Stone, 'Dr:-Friedell, and!.Facting a3 an Advisory Committee. As a general working principle, there will be no overlapping in these two programs except such as is necessary for confirmation of important and possibly controversial points. The general biological program is designed to settle definite practical questions raised by the physicists engaged in the pro3ect, the participating manufacturing groups, and the Manhattan District.

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY ROCHESTER, NEW YORK From an organizational standpoint, the Office of the Medical Section will have its headquarters at Rochester. in Chicago under Dr. Freidell, as well as subsidiary dfices Jn other locations aa the future needs indicate, as well aa at the Manhattan District. At present the personnel of the Office of the Medical Section is as follows: There will be a subsidiary office Dr. Stafford Warren, Chief Medical el Assistant to Dr. Warren. The accompanying diagram indicates the relationhhips among the group. In accordance with our various conferences, the salaries cf' Drs. Rea and Holt and others who may be appointed from time to time will be paid for out of the Office of the Medical. Section under a contract with the University of Rochester. Such appointees will later be transferred to the proper budgets xhich your office m y indicate. As our orgenization gets asjusted to the complexities of the situation, I believe we will begin to act effectively and relieve you of a few of your Chief Medical Advisor Office of the Medical Section
