This letter is in regard to an inquiry regarding the pi meson research program. Kligerman writes that the pion beam has its greatest potenti for tumors that remain localized for long periods of time. The kinds lung disease that will be able to be treated therefore, is very limite kligerman states that at present the accelerator is shut down for extensive maintenance. When operation resumes, testing will be done with the beam on skin nodules gradually progressing toward treatment o deeper tumors at higher dose level.
