The Division had one of its heaviesc course Is during the year with six basic courses,a '_..nposium on management problems encountered in the use of isotopes, and advanced couzscs in biochemistry, autoradiography, and t h e industrial uses of isotopes. The industrial symposium was one of the first of its kind, in that it dealt with the special problems of interest to management brought on by the use of radioisotopes in research posium w a s actcnded by 69 management rcpresent at ives as well as by 62 participants who took the course in industrial use of isotopes. If any trend could be spotted in the work of the Division, itis the offering of additional advanced couzscs in specialized fields. However, the demand for basic course offerings seems to justify a continuation of the present policy of offering about six courses annually, In general, the 5dvanced courses arc of two weeks duration with less emphasis on laboratory work than on lectures and demonstration. Emphasis continues on radioisotope techniques rather than on reThe Division was fortunate in obtaining the services of many outstanding lecturers in its advanced courses. It continues to draw heavily on personnel from the Oak Ridge area in t h e conduct of both basic and advanced courses. ' Senior members of the Special Training Division staff maintain an active research program on several problems of interest to the Division o r to ocher phases of the atomic energy program.
