ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION MEMORANDUM TO BIO-MEDICAL PROGRAM DIRECTORS Subject meeting will be held in the AEC HQ Auditorium, Germantown, on September 13-14, and will convene a t 9:15 A.M. As the program is presently set up, various DBM staff members will present the program during the morning of the 13th, a t which time there will be a discussion on the preparation of budgets, the nature of the material needed for orientation of HQ personnel and the preparation of supporting in for - mation required at various stages of the budget cycle. One afternoon will be devoted to visiting with the DBM technical staff to acquaint them with the Program Directors ' specific problems and t o promote flow of information between operating and administrative branches of the iThe Program.Directors will be invited to discuss their general plans for the remainder of the period 1960-70 and additionally1 to outline any building needs that can be foreseen at this time.I On Friday, the 14th,the Program Directors and DBM staff will meet with the Advisory Committee for Biology and Medicine. The program for this session will consist of a general statement of the DBM program with identification of specific areas which we feel need detailed consideration,e.g., .the toxicity of radioelements, chemical protection ; removal of radioactivity ; sciences program; radiological and health physics and instrumentation. Rapid developments i n some of these fields require policy decisions which are best made with a maximum of consultation and guidance. Time will be allowed for general discussions of these problems and w e hope there will be ample time for more detailed discussion of the most pressing ones. .There i s enclosed a copy of a tentative outline of the program.
