Group h-4 in cooperation with the federal civil defense agency in washington is now planning to participate in operation plumbob at the nevada test site (nts). Attempts will be made to learn more about the relative effects of neutrons and gamma rays from bomb explosions on animals. Paper electrophoresis studies indicated that increased protein excretion by rats after uranium injection consisted of increased albumin and alpha globulin , and heavier beta and gamma globulins. Studies of the effect of radiation on cholesterol synthesis confirmed that only cholesterol synthesis in the liver was affected. Carbon-14 and tritium correspond closely.
